Project Summary

After successfully completing the illustration revamp for the German app Choosy, I was re-engaged by the company to redesign their iconography. This project involved redesigning approximately 120 icons, categorized by their placement within the app’s UI layout, necessitating different sizes and levels of detail. Despite these variations, it was crucial to maintain a cohesive style across all icons to ensure a unified visual identity. The redesign aimed to evoke a friendly and modern aesthetic, enhancing the overall user experience.

Navigation Icons

The icons revamp began with redesigning the "navigation bar icons" for Plan, Shopping, Stock, Recipes, and Profile. These icons were prominently displayed while users browsed through the app, requiring them to be effective even at small sizes such as 24px and 16px. Therefore, creating minimalistic and instantly recognizable designs was essential.

To ensure pixel-perfect precision and optimal rendering across all screens, these icons were designed following a pixel grid. The lines were monoline with soft, rounded edges and smooth curves. This approach resulted in icons that were playful yet not overly so, maintaining a friendly and professional appearance.

The icons were divided into categories: Restriction Icons, Diet Icons, Grocery Icons, Food Group Icons, and General Icons. The challenge was ensuring they looked cohesive together. Restriction icons featured circular shapes with food products inside a crossed circle, necessitating careful definition of the right amount of white space around each icon.

Grocery Categories - 32px

Food Group - 24px

General - 24px
